Caroline is a freelance environmental multimedia journalist, writer and artist based in Missoula, Montana. With years of print, video and digital journalism experience, she works to share her passion for the outdoors by telling stories about the connections between people and the environment.

Caroline grew up all over the West, learning to love the outdoors in Texas, New Mexico and California. She moved north to hike and major in environmental studies and history at Reed College in Oregon, where she wrote a thesis on the environmental justice implications of radiation. After spending summers as a backpacking and river guide, and a year repairing kayaks, she completed a master’s degree in environmental and natural resource journalism at the University of Montana in 2024. Her master’s work looked at the impacts of the paddlesports boom and permit shortages on Western river users.

In 2024, she jumped into a new medium: broadcast journalism. She spent two years as a multimedia journalist with KPAX-TV, an E.W. Scripps station and CBS-affiliate in Missoula, MT. She reported stories each week for television, web and social media platforms on all sorts of issues impacting Montanans. These stories led her to the top of a landslide in Sanders County, the site of a controversial mining proposal in the Bitterroot Valley, behind fire lines and onto countless ranches.
