Caroline is a freelance environmental journalist, writer and artist based in Missoula, Montana. She works to share her passion for the outdoors by telling stories about the connections between people and the environment.

Caroline grew up all over the West, learning to love the outdoors in Texas, New Mexico and California. She moved north to hike and major in environmental studies and history at Reed College in Oregon, where she wrote a thesis on the environmental justice implications of radiation. After spending summers as a backpacking and river guide, and a year repairing kayaks, she recently completed a master’s degree in environmental and natural resource journalism at the University of Montana. Her master’s worked looked at the impacts of the paddlesports boom and permit shortages on Western river users.
